Many parts of Kerala are affected by the danger of lightning which strikes during the rainy season.

While lightning takes place, a very high voltage surge, a high current passes through people, high rise and isolated buildings and other equipments sensitive in nature. Lightning Protection –Principle

The principle involved in the lightning protection system is to provide a low resistance conductive path between the overcharged atmosphere and the Earth, therefore the other parts of the building act as a non-conductive part.

A higher level of protection can be obtained from installing quality and state of the art materials by experienced technicians, and there comes our role M-Star Lightning Protection System.

With the unique design properties of M-Start terminal provides 360 degree of protection; M-Star Air Terminal intercepts all lightning discharge in 360-degree angle above the structure and allows safe passage for the discharge energy to the Earth.

The Down Conductor

The specially made HV insulated thick copper:

(20x3mm), (25x4mm), (25x 6mm) [As per geographical requirements]

Conductor bypasses the heavy surge to the earth point, thus avoiding the danger of side flashing. These conductors are clamped and joined by good quality clams and bonds.

Significance of HV Insulated Down Conductor

  • By using HV insulated down conductors, the risk of side flashing is minimized.
  • The structure carries only a very low capacitive coupling to the main down conductor due to the fact that HV insulators are good di-electric material.

The Earthing System

A good earthing system is the essential part of the lightning protection system. Each earthing point should not exceed a maximum resistance of 10ohms. It is obtained by detailed meggering before earth point installation.
